Landor (Local History) Society

Please note that for all meetings held at Sneydlands, Bryans Lane, Rugeley, parking is available behind the Magistrates’ Courts nearby.

The barrier will be manned from about 7.10 till 7.25 p.m.

The very limited parking at Sneydlands must only be used the residents, their visitors and the emergency services and as such, is not available to attendees .

Wednesday, 18th April  2018                                                                    Sneydlands  7.30 p.m.

This will be a Members’ Night again, when Members are invited to give a 10 minute talk on a topic of their choice.  We hope to get 5-6 volunteers and would ask you to contact Glenys with details and title.


Wednesday, 16th May 2018                                                                        Meet for 7.00 p.m.

A visit to Wade Street Church, Lichfield WS13 6HL where there will be a talk on the history of the church.  Please let Glenys know if you are able to attend.


Wednesday, 20th June 2018                                                                         Meet for 7.00 p.m.

A visit to Sandon Hall where we will be given a guided tour by a professional historian.

This will cost £20 per head which should be paid well in advance in order that the society can make payment to the hall a month before our visit.  It is essential that names and payment are given to Glenys at the latest at the April meeting if you wish to attend.


Saturday, 21st July 2018                                                                                 Meet for 2.30 p.m.

A visit to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas.  Please note that members have elected to make this an informal visit with the opportunity to partake of refreshments and a chat afterwards.

A visit to St Mary the Virgin Church, Colton conducted by our Chairman, Dorothy Bradbury. 


Wednesday, 19th September 2018       Return to Sneydlands                       7.30 p.m.

Alice Harvey Fishenden, a PhD student at the University of Liverpool  will visit to give a talk on
her work with Staffordshire Record Office to investigate drought and water shortages in the county since the Industrial Revolution
.  She also runs a volunteer group at the Staffordshire Record Office, exploring the recording of weather in 18th Century diaries and letters.


The Landor (Local History) Society serves Rugeley, Staffordshire and the neighbouring parishes.  We care about the heritage of the town of Rugeley and its surrounding area.
